Scientists to peek inside noses with brain microscope to unravel smell loss

NCT ID NCT07546617

First seen Apr 25, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study aims to see the part of the nose responsible for smell using a special microscope originally designed for brain imaging. Researchers will compare images from people with and without smell loss to find differences in the tiny structures. About 36 adults undergoing nose surgery will participate. The goal is to better understand smell loss, not to treat it.
