Surgical showdown for a rare gut squeeze

NCT ID NCT06970093

Summary

This study aimed to find out which of two surgeries works better for people with Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome (SMAS), a rare condition where a major blood vessel pinches part of the small intestine, causing severe nausea, vomiting, and weight loss. Twenty participants with SMAS were randomly assigned to receive either a One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (OAGB) or a Duodeno-jejunostomy (DJ) procedure. Researchers followed them for a year to see which surgery led to better symptom relief, nutritional recovery, and quality of life.
