Sleep drug trial aims to calm suicidal thoughts in veterans

NCT ID NCT06854224

Summary

This small, early-stage study is testing whether a sleep medication called suvorexant is safe and tolerable for veterans with major depression and elevated suicide risk. Over four weeks, 30 participants will take the drug daily while researchers measure changes in suicidal thoughts, aggression, and attention. The goal is to see if targeting the brain's orexin system—involved in wakefulness and stress—might help ease dangerous mental states.
