Double trouble: sleep apnea and COPD may harm the heart more than either alone

NCT ID NCT05237505

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study looks at how having both sleep apnea and COPD (called overlap syndrome) affects the heart and blood vessels. Researchers will compare 240 adults aged 40-79 with one or both conditions to understand why heart problems are more common in overlap syndrome. They will also test two treatments—nighttime breathing support (BiPAP) and nighttime oxygen—to see which may improve heart health.
