New cream cocktail could shield transplant patients from skin cancer

NCT ID NCT05699603

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study tests whether a combination of two creams—calcipotriene (a form of vitamin D) and 5-fluorouracil (a chemotherapy agent)—can prevent skin cancer in organ transplant recipients. These patients have a high risk of developing skin cancer due to their long-term use of immune-suppressing drugs. The study involves 56 kidney or lung transplant recipients with precancerous skin spots called actinic keratosis. The goal is to see if the treatment reduces these spots and lowers the risk of skin cancer.
