Common cholesterol drug tested as potential lifeline for rare liver disease

NCT ID NCT04133792

Summary

This study is testing whether simvastatin, a common cholesterol medication, can improve outcomes for people with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), a rare liver disease. About 571 participants will take either simvastatin or a placebo daily for five years to see if the drug can delay serious complications like liver failure, cancer, or the need for a transplant. The goal is to determine if this widely available medication can help control disease progression in PSC.
