Tiny study tests stem cell collection for sickle cell patients without a donor

NCT ID NCT02212535

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This early-phase study tested whether a single injection of plerixafor could safely and effectively collect stem cells from the blood of adults with severe sickle cell disease who do not have a matched sibling donor. Only 3 people took part, and the main goal was to see if the procedure was safe and could gather enough stem cells for a future transplant. The study is complete, but results are not yet widely reported.
