New study aims to find safer anesthesia for shoulder surgery patients
NCT ID NCT06703281
First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study compared two types of nerve blocks used for shoulder surgery to see which one is less likely to cause breathing problems. The blocks numb the arm and shoulder so patients can avoid general anesthesia. The main concern is that one block can sometimes paralyze the diaphragm, making it hard to breathe. Researchers measured breathing function and diaphragm movement in 123 patients to find the safer option.
