New study aims to find safer anesthesia for shoulder surgery

NCT ID NCT06703281

First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated Apr 25, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looked at 123 people having shoulder surgery to compare two types of nerve blocks: the standard interscalene block and a newer superior trunk block. The goal was to see which one is less likely to cause temporary diaphragm paralysis, a side effect that can make breathing harder. Researchers used ultrasound and breathing tests to measure the effects.
