Can brain wave tests spot early dementia risk?
NCT ID NCT07068620
First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study looks at people with cerebral small vessel disease, a common condition in older adults that can lead to stroke and dementia. Researchers will measure brain activity using EEG and test whether home-based cognitive training or mild brain stimulation can improve thinking skills. The goal is to find better ways to detect and manage early cognitive problems.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
home-based cognitive training and transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could identify new brain-wave markers to detect cognitive decline earlier and point toward personalized training or stimulation strategies.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage observational study (80 participants) focused on biomarkers, not a treatment trial. The cognitive training and stimulation are exploratory, so real-world benefits remain uncertain.
Conditions
