Sweet vs. cool: study reveals sex differences in E-Cig flavor appeal
NCT ID NCT05432830
First seen Jan 28, 2026 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This study looked at how men and women differ in their sensory experience and liking of e-cigarette flavors. 66 adult smokers who also used e-cigarettes tried sweet, cooling, and unflavored e-liquids with nicotine. Researchers measured how much they liked each flavor, how sweet or cool it felt, and how much they would pay for more puffs. The goal is to understand if flavor preferences differ by sex, which could inform future smoking reduction strategies.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could help tailor e-cigarette flavors to reduce smoking in men and women.
