Which anesthetic is better at tracking pain? new study aims to find out

NCT ID NCT07511634

First seen Apr 09, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study will compare two common anesthetics, sevoflurane and desflurane, to see how they affect a pain-monitoring tool called the Analgesia Nociception Index (ANI) in 80 adults undergoing general anesthesia. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive one of the two drugs, and their ANI, heart rate, and blood pressure will be measured before and after a mild pain stimulus. The goal is to understand how each anesthetic influences pain tracking, which may help doctors choose the best option for future patients.
