Anesthesia's hidden effect: new study probes memory loss after surgery

NCT ID NCT05991817

First seen Nov 20, 2025 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This observational study looks at how the general anesthetic sevoflurane affects spatial memory in 22 adults aged 30-50 having elective gallbladder surgery. Participants will take a virtual maze test and give blood samples before and after surgery to measure memory changes and inflammation. The goal is to understand if anesthesia temporarily impairs spatial memory and increases inflammatory markers.
