NCT ID NCT06806956

First seen Feb 01, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study looks at whether giving a rectal medicine (rectal artesunate) followed by a 3-day course of antimalarial pills can effectively treat severe malaria in children aged 6 months to 5 years when they cannot get to a hospital for injections. The research will take place in Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo, enrolling about 2,016 children. The goal is to see if this approach works as well as the standard injectable treatment and improves access to care in remote areas.
