New combo therapy aims to boost complete response in rectal cancer

NCT ID NCT07150949

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study tests two different treatment plans for people with locally advanced rectal cancer that has not spread. One plan uses longer radiation followed by chemotherapy, while the other uses shorter radiation plus chemotherapy, an immunotherapy drug, and a painkiller that may help the treatment work better. The goal is to see which approach leads to a higher chance of the cancer completely disappearing before surgery. About 138 adults aged 18-75 with a specific type of rectal cancer will take part.
