Scientists probe hidden fluid to unlock deadly shock mystery
NCT ID NCT05039151
Summary
This small, completed study aimed to understand why dangerous fluid buildup (edema) happens in septic shock, a severe and often fatal infection complication. Researchers compared the makeup of a specific body fluid from 26 sedated patients—some with septic shock and some with other types of shock. The goal was to gather basic knowledge about this fluid's role, which could one day lead to better treatments.
