Take-Home antibiotics may cut unnecessary ER trips for bladder patients

NCT ID NCT07648290

First seen Jun 18, 2026 · Last updated Jun 18, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether giving patients a standing prescription for an antibiotic (Macrobid) to use at the first sign of a urinary tract infection after Botox treatment for overactive bladder can reduce the need for phone calls, clinic visits, or emergency room trips. About 260 women will be split into two groups: one gets the take-home prescription, the other follows the standard process of calling a triage line. The goal is to see if the self-start approach lowers unplanned healthcare use while keeping patients safe.
