First seen May 12, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tested a new school-based curriculum designed to prevent e-cigarette, tobacco, and betel (areca) nut use among middle school students in Guam. Over 500 students aged 11-15 participated in a randomized trial comparing the new program to standard education. The goal was to reduce the number of teens who start using these substances, which are linked to higher cancer rates in the Pacific Islands.
