Preterm birth and salt sensitivity: a new study investigates

NCT ID NCT04026776

First seen Apr 07, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study looks at how salt in the diet affects blood pressure in young adults who were born prematurely. Researchers will compare the salt sensitivity of people born preterm with those born full-term. They will also test if a drug called allopurinol can reduce salt sensitivity. The goal is to understand why preterm birth may increase the risk of high blood pressure later in life.
