Spit test could spot gum disease early

NCT ID NCT07025291

First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study looked at whether three specific proteins in saliva can help tell the difference between healthy gums, gingivitis (mild gum inflammation), and periodontitis (serious gum disease). Researchers measured these proteins in 60 adults who were non-smokers and otherwise healthy. The goal was to see if these proteins could serve as simple, non-invasive diagnostic markers for gum disease.
