First seen Feb 26, 2026 · Last updated May 19, 2026 · Updated 14 times
Summary
This study tested two treatments for pleural infection (infected fluid around the lungs): washing the chest cavity with salt water (saline) versus using clot-busting drugs (fibrinolytic therapy). 40 adults with poor drainage after chest tube insertion were enrolled. The goal was to see which method is safer and more effective at clearing the infection and avoiding surgery.
