Simple blood test could reduce unnecessary brain scans after head bumps

NCT ID NCT03780062

Summary

This study tested whether a blood test measuring S100B protein could accurately identify which adults on blood-thinning medication (like aspirin or clopidogrel) did NOT have a serious brain injury after a minor head bump. The goal was to see if the test could safely help doctors avoid ordering unnecessary CT scans for these patients. All 720 participants received the standard CT scan, and researchers checked if the blood test results matched the scan findings.
