Simple blood test could reduce unnecessary brain scans

NCT ID NCT03780062

Summary

This study tested whether a blood test for a protein called S100B could help doctors decide if a CT scan is needed for adults with minor head injuries who are taking blood-thinning medications like aspirin or clopidogrel. The goal was to see if a negative S100B test result could reliably predict that a patient does not have a serious brain injury, potentially avoiding unnecessary scans. It involved 720 patients who came to the emergency department with minor head trauma.
