Drug trial aims to shield kidneys from heart surgery damage

NCT ID NCT05010460

Summary

This study tested whether giving the drug roxadustat before heart bypass surgery could prevent a common complication called acute kidney injury. About 98 patients scheduled for non-emergency bypass surgery were randomly assigned to receive either roxadustat or a placebo before their operation. The goal was to see if the drug, which helps tissues tolerate low oxygen levels, could reduce kidney damage after surgery.
