Wound pump may ease pain after breast removal

NCT ID NCT02525211

First seen May 15, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tested whether continuously pumping a local anesthetic (ropivacaine) into the surgical wound after mastectomy reduces pain and speeds recovery better than a placebo. The trial involved 59 women with breast cancer and aimed to see if this approach could lower the need for morphine and prevent chronic pain. The study was terminated early, so results are limited.
