Scientists investigate Eosinophils' role in scleroderma scarring

NCT ID NCT03816189

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a type of white blood cell called eosinophils plays a role in the scarring (fibrosis) seen in systemic sclerosis, an autoimmune disease. Researchers compared blood and tissue samples from 40 patients with systemic sclerosis and 30 healthy volunteers. The goal was to understand how eosinophils might contribute to the disease, not to test a new treatment.
