Brain scans reveal clues to dystonia mystery

NCT ID NCT02727361

First seen May 20, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looked at how a specific brain chemical system (cholinergic) works in people with a genetic form of dystonia, a condition causing muscle spasms and abnormal postures. Researchers used PET scans to measure chemical activity in the brain. The goal was to better understand the disease, not to test a treatment. 40 adults with confirmed DYT1 dystonia took part.
