Gene therapy shot could replace monthly eye injections for wet AMD

NCT ID NCT04514653

First seen Nov 16, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study tests a gene therapy called RGX-314 as a potential one-time treatment for wet age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), a leading cause of vision loss. Currently, patients need frequent eye injections to control the disease. The trial involves about 146 adults aged 50-89 who have responded well to standard therapy. Participants receive one or two injections of RGX-314, and researchers compare their vision changes and safety against a standard treatment over up to 80 weeks.
