Life after the leotard: study probes identity crisis in retired gymnasts
NCT ID NCT07408752
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at how retired rhythmic gymnasts adjust after leaving competitive sport. Researchers will survey 100 retired female gymnasts aged 18 and older about their body image and how strongly they still feel like athletes. The goal is to understand what helps or hinders a healthy transition after retirement.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this study could point toward better support programs to help retired athletes adjust emotionally after their careers end.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It only looks at relationships between factors, so it cannot prove cause and effect. Results may not apply to all retired athletes.
