Measuring hidden energy needs: a clue to better nutrition for gut failure patients
NCT ID NCT07714499
First seen Jul 20, 2026 · Last updated Jul 21, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study measures how many calories people burn at rest, comparing healthy adults to those with intestinal failure (a condition where the gut cannot absorb enough nutrients). Researchers will also look at body composition and inflammation markers. The goal is to find out if energy needs differ based on gut function, which could lead to more personalized nutrition plans for patients.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this study could help tailor calorie and nutrition plans for people with intestinal failure, potentially improving their health outcomes.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational comparison, not a treatment trial, so it won't directly test a new therapy. Results may not apply to all patients with intestinal failure.

- Phase

Not a phased trial
Phase numbers describe drug development. The registry uses this when they do not apply, as it does for trials of devices, procedures or behaviour changes, and for observational studies.
