First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study follows 1,088 newborns in Colombia and Panama from birth to age 5 to learn what causes respiratory infections, why some kids get sicker than others, and how early infections affect long-term health. Families report symptoms twice a week via phone app or calls, and provide nasal and blood samples during illness. No experimental treatments are given—the goal is to gather information to help prevent and treat respiratory diseases in the future.
