Reused heart catheters put to the test in landmark green trial
NCT ID NCT07389434
First seen Feb 05, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This study tests whether re-sterilized (reprocessed) catheters are as safe and effective as new ones for a common heart procedure called pulmonary vein isolation, used to treat atrial fibrillation. About 200 adults with AFib will be randomly assigned to receive either a new or a reprocessed catheter during their procedure. The goal is to see if using reprocessed catheters can reduce medical waste and lower costs without compromising patient safety or procedure success.
