Could a TB vaccine tame type 1 diabetes in kids?

NCT ID NCT05866536

First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study tests whether giving repeated BCG vaccines (a TB vaccine) can improve blood sugar control and reduce insulin needs in children aged 8 to 17 who were recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The goal is to see if the vaccine can calm the immune attack on the pancreas, helping the body produce more insulin naturally. About 100 children will receive the vaccine and be monitored for changes in blood sugar and insulin use.
