Relax your way to a smoother birth: new study tests simple breathing and muscle techniques

NCT ID NCT07090902

First seen Jan 23, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study tested whether a childbirth class that includes progressive relaxation exercises (like tensing and releasing muscles) can help pregnant women feel less pain during labor, influence their choice of vaginal or C-section birth, and make breastfeeding more comfortable. Forty pregnant women took part; one group received a booklet and audio CD with relaxation exercises plus in-person training, while the other group got standard prenatal care. The results will show if adding relaxation techniques to birth preparation offers real benefits.
