Veterans helping veterans: One-Hour chat could save lives from firearm suicide

NCT ID NCT07033884

First seen Mar 14, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study tests whether a one-hour peer-led discussion about secure firearm storage can help veterans store their guns more safely, reducing suicide risk. About 100 veterans who own firearms and currently store them unsafely will take part. Half will have the peer discussion; the other half will receive educational materials only. Researchers will track storage habits for one year to see which approach works better.
