Can less surgery be enough for rectal cancer?

NCT ID NCT07038122

Summary

This study is testing whether surgeons can safely remove less healthy tissue around a rectal tumor after initial drug treatment. It will compare a smaller surgical margin to the standard larger one in about 874 patients. The main goal is to see if the smaller surgery works as well at keeping cancer from coming back over three years, while possibly helping patients recover faster.
