New combo therapy aims to improve survival in hard-to-treat rectal cancer

NCT ID NCT07594925

First seen May 20, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether adding an immunotherapy drug (sintilimab) to standard short-course radiation and chemotherapy can improve long-term survival in people with a common type of locally advanced rectal cancer (MSS type). About 130 adults with stage II or III rectal cancer will be randomly assigned to receive either the standard treatment or the standard treatment plus immunotherapy before and after surgery. The goal is to see if the new combination helps keep the cancer from coming back.
