Could a chemo cocktail spare rectal cancer patients from radiation?

NCT ID NCT04215731

First seen Mar 10, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study compares two treatment approaches for people with high-risk locally advanced rectal cancer. One group gets a strong three-drug chemo plus a targeted therapy (bevacizumab), and only receives radiation if needed. The other group gets standard chemo followed by chemoradiation. The goal is to see if the stronger chemo can control the cancer just as well while avoiding the long-term side effects of radiation. About 582 adults will take part in this phase 3 trial.
