New combo therapy aims to shrink rectal tumors without surgery

Summary
This study tests whether adding radiotherapy to a combination of chemotherapy (CAPOX) and an immunotherapy drug (Toripalimab) can improve outcomes for people with locally advanced rectal cancer that is microsatellite stable. About 192 participants will receive either the drug combo alone or with short-course radiation before possible surgery. The goal is to see if the tumor completely disappears, allowing some patients to avoid surgery.
