Light-based test could spare thousands from unnecessary nasal polyp surgery

NCT ID NCT07125586

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study tests a new, non-invasive device that shines a safe light on nasal tissue to instantly identify a severe type of nasal polyp (eosinophilic) before surgery. Currently, diagnosis requires a tissue sample after surgery, which can delay proper treatment. The study will enroll 353 adults with chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps to see if the device is accurate and safe. If successful, it could help doctors choose the best treatment earlier and reduce unnecessary surgeries.
