Smarter fetal monitoring could prevent birth injuries
NCT ID NCT07629271
First seen Jun 09, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study looks at whether a new method of interpreting fetal heart rate recordings (cardiotocography) can better identify when a baby is not getting enough oxygen during labor. Researchers will review data from 1,000 full-term pregnancies, combining past records and new enrollments. The goal is to improve how doctors spot fetal distress and assess newborn health right after birth.

If successful, this could lead to better monitoring methods during labor to identify fetal distress earlier and reduce birth complications.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not change current practice, and results might not apply to all pregnancies or hospital settings.
