When to treat slow heart rate during surgery? new study compares two approaches
NCT ID NCT06922097
First seen May 09, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study looked at 186 adults aged 50 and older having non-cardiac surgery. It compared giving atropine (a drug that raises heart rate) when the heart rate dropped below 60 beats per minute versus waiting until it dropped below 30 beats per minute. The goal was to see if earlier treatment reduced the need for norepinephrine, a medication used to maintain blood pressure during surgery.
