New ECT method may ease depression with fewer memory problems

Summary

This study tested two ways of giving electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) to 156 people with severe depression. One method uses a frontoparietal placement and the other a temporoparietal placement. The goal was to see which works better for depression while causing fewer memory side effects. Participants received ECT for about 4 weeks and were followed for 24 weeks after.
