First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 34 times
Summary
This early-phase trial tested radiation therapy in 36 patients with liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma, cholangiocarcinoma, or liver metastases) who also had impaired liver function due to cirrhosis, chemotherapy, or surgery. The goal was to find the safest dose and see if it could control tumors. The study was terminated early, but data may still inform future treatments.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
radiation therapy
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help find a safer radiation dose for liver cancer patients with liver damage, potentially improving tumor control.
What could go wrong
This is an early phase I trial with only 36 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The trial was terminated, and side effects could be significant due to already impaired liver function.
