New brain target may tame seizures when other treatments fail

NCT ID NCT04692701

First seen Feb 12, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This pilot study tests whether stimulating a deep brain region called the pulvinar can reduce seizures in people with drug-resistant epilepsy who have not been helped by surgery or vagal nerve stimulation. Twelve adults aged 18 to 60 will receive the stimulation for 12 months, and researchers will track seizure frequency, mood, and quality of life. The goal is to find a better treatment option for those with limited alternatives.
