Magic mushroom microdoses tested as mood lifter
NCT ID NCT05259943
Summary
This study tested whether taking very small, non-hallucinogenic doses of psilocybin (the active compound in 'magic mushrooms') could safely improve mood in people with major depression. It involved 39 adults who either hadn't responded to standard treatments or didn't want to try them. Participants received either the psilocybin microdose or a placebo once a week for four weeks, followed by four weeks where everyone received the microdose, to measure its short-term effects on depressive symptoms.
