Magic mushroom microdoses tested as depression treatment
NCT ID NCT05259943
Summary
This study tested whether very small, non-hallucinogenic doses of psilocybin (the active compound in 'magic mushrooms') could safely help improve mood in people with major depression. Thirty-nine adults who either hadn't responded to standard treatments or didn't want them received either a placebo or psilocybin once a week for four weeks, followed by psilocybin for all for another four weeks. Researchers tracked changes in depression symptoms through surveys for up to two years to see if this approach shows promise.
