Precision proton beams target brain tumors, aim to save hearing
NCT ID NCT01199978
Summary
This study is testing whether a specialized type of radiation called proton therapy can better control the growth of a non-cancerous inner ear tumor (acoustic neuroma) while preserving the patient's hearing. About 30 adults with these tumors will receive daily proton radiation treatments for about 5.5 weeks. Researchers will follow participants for 5 years to see how well the treatment controls the tumor and whether it helps maintain hearing compared to standard radiation.
