Can a heart drug quiet the rage of misophonia?
NCT ID NCT07271485
Summary
This small, early-stage study is testing whether a single dose of the medication propranolol can temporarily reduce the intense anger, anxiety, and physical distress people with misophonia feel when exposed to triggering sounds like chewing or tapping. Twenty adults with significant misophonia symptoms will receive either the drug or a placebo during a clinic visit to see if it blunts their heart rate and emotional reaction to sound triggers. The goal is to see if this common beta-blocker could offer short-term relief for this challenging condition.
