Can a heart drug calm rage from chewing sounds?
NCT ID NCT07271485
Summary
This small, early-stage study is testing whether a single, low dose of the blood pressure medication propranolol can temporarily reduce the intense emotional and physical distress people feel when exposed to specific triggering sounds, like chewing or sniffing. Twenty adults with significant misophonia will receive either the drug or a placebo and then watch videos containing their trigger sounds. Researchers will measure changes in heart rate and self-reported distress to see if the medication helps blunt the body's stress response.
